He's using something that's more of a paint program than an image viewer, so he's forced to convert things to Windows bitmaps which are just too freaking huge. Windows Paint program is simple but effective. Can easily convert from .bmp to .jpg or just display .jpgs like nobody's business. Also, I fear macs.
